## Website Development Proposal

**Prepared for: C.E. Niehoff & Co
February 2020**

---

**Div** is a digital agency based in NYC that specializes in WordPress, Drupal, JavaScript, data migration, native iOS and Android app development, and the fundamentals of enterprise web development.

Each member of the team has at least a decade of experience.

Pantheon’s Partner Manager, **Jasmine Kinch**, referred your project to us. We have worked with Pantheon for nearly a decade and we’ve each completed the **Pantheon Advanced Developer Trainings**.

We hope to be able to be the go-to web development team for **C.E. Niehoff & Co**.

## Relevant Work

Each developer on the Div team has worked with both Drupal and WordPress for over a decade, on hundreds of projects including **Drupal** websites for Columbia University and Yale, Pernod Ricard, Bob Dylan, AC/DC, Beyonce, Foo Fighters, The Strokes, many **WordPress** websites including work done for ComicCon, Collect-A-Con, World Affairs Councils of America, and Columbia University. We have done **custom web-based software** for the United Nations, we have done **front-end prototyping** for American Express, we have done **data migrations** for all of our projects including **web-scraping**, **API integrations**, and even client **direct mail campaigns** (direct mail often has a higher ROI than paid ads).

See more of our work here: [https://www.div.digital/work/](https://www.div.digital/work/)

A few projects relevant to **manufacturing**:

Tim Hobert worked with **Atlas Copco** (market cap: $66 billion as of 2022) and their subsidiary **Chicago Pneumatic** way back in 2008 (14 years ago) on a **Drupal** website that contained a few hundred promotional products (“schwag”) that the sales teams could “purchase” for customers using non-monetary credits. How is this relevant? Well, there were a few hundred products, imported into a **MySQL** database, for a client in a similar industry.
(Note: These are not the actual screenshots. It was 14 years ago)

In 2017 we worked with **Eventide**, a legendary audio, broadcast, communications, and avionics company founded in 1971 in NYC. We built their new **Shopify** store and allowed it to communicate with their corporate website, built using the **Drupal** CMS which housed decades worth of data on customers, products, and analytics. A large WordPress website that entailed content migration from a few sources:

NYC-based **Medidata Solutions** is a $6 billion software company that develops and markets software as a service (SaaS) solutions for clinical trials. Pantheon referred Medidata to us back in 2018. We migrated their old **Drupal** site with approximately 1,500 pages and posts and from a few 3rd party resources to a fresh new **WordPress** website. The website includes **advanced analytics**, **translations** and hundreds of custom pages and posts for Japan, Korea, China and the EU. See project page »

## Proposal Estimate

We would suggest using **WordPress** (rather than Drupal) as the CMS due to ease of use and ease of maintenance. We’re big fans of both WordPress and Drupal (Tim and Shawn went to DrupalCon for 10 years), but these days WordPress has caught up to Drupal in terms of features, WordPress has a robust set of proven plugins, and is easier to maintain.

Drupal relies on the **Composer** PHP Dependency Manager which requires a developer with **command line** skills to do monthly updates. WordPress updates are generally a one-click affair, via SFTP, in Pantheon.

Migrations to WordPress are generally easier that migrations to Drupal. Overall development time tends to be at least 25-50% lower with WordPress, saving time and money.

**WordPress powers an incredible 43% of all the websites on the Internet** as of Feb 2022 \[[source](https://kinsta.com/wordpress-market-share/)\]. By comparison, **Drupal powers about 2% of all websites**. There are far more WordPress developers in the world than Drupal developers so it’s easier to find developers.

We try to make things really easy for our clients:

We charge a **flat rate of $125 USD per hour for development time**. We do not charge a retainer, we simply charge for *actual development time*. We keep track of our hours using the **Harvest Time Tracking Software** and we send invoices to all active clients at the end of each month.

If you need us, reach out. If you don’t, all good. We’ll be here for you when you need us.

For your project we would estimate the following:

| | | |
| --- | --- | --- |
| | *$125* | *Hourly Rate* |
| **Hours** | **Estimate** | **Description** |
| 16 | $2,000 | Initial Discovery & Project Planning |
| 24 | $3,000 | WordPress Configuration |
| 40 | $5,000 | Content Migration into WordPress |
| 60 | $7,500 | WordPress Frontend Development |
| 40 | $5,000 | QA, Feedback, Updates |
| 8 | $1,000 | Training & Documentation |
| **188** | **$23,500** | **Total** |

## Timeline

We could begin work on the project on Wednesday, **March 23**, 2022. The project will likely take 6-8 weeks to complete so we could have your new website live by mid-to-late **May**.

---

## The Long Run

It is our goal to continue working with all of our clients for **the long run**. We try to make things as easy as possible for our clients and we generally continue working with each client for many years. You will have a team of highly experienced developers on call if you need assistance.

## Conclusion

We are happy to present this proposal for your review. If you have any questions or need additional information amended to the proposal, please let us know.

Thank you!
